Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
A Seasonal Research Assistant position is available with the CAES Soil Testing Laboratory and the Office of Aquatic Invasive Species (OAIS). This position requires performing soil fertility tests in a laboratory setting and documenting aquatic vegetation in Connecticut waterbodies. A background in the natural sciences (environmental science, natural resources, ecology and evolutionary biology, soil science etc.) is required. The successful candidate will assist the principal investigator in testing soil and water samples and performing aquatic plant surveys. Outstanding interpersonal skills are needed for interacting with the public and the CAES OAIS team. Must be comfortable working full days in the laboratory or in the field and possess a valid driver’s license. Boating experience is preferred, and the successful applicant will be required to have or obtain a CT Safe Boating Certificate. The ability to swim is necessary for safety on the water. Candidates must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful. Computer skills include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software and webpage editing is a plus. The position is available from April 2, 2026, through September 30, 2026. Hours may be adjusted to accommodate school schedules. The salary is $17/hour for a 35-hour work week.
