About us: Fire & Knives is an experiential outdoor skills program that helps young people build confidence, competence, and independence through hands-on learning. Rooted in the belief that appropriate risk and real responsibility are essential to growth, the program teaches practical skills such as safe fire building, tool use, shelter construction, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. https://www.fireknives.com
Role overview:
The Assistant Instructor supports program delivery by helping manage small groups, reinforcing skill instruction, and ensuring sessions run smoothly. This is an ideal role for people building experience in outdoor or experiential programming.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Instructor during all sessions
- Supervise participants and assist with skill stations
- Encourage teamwork, participation, and confidence
- Help prepare materials and maintain program flow
- Willingness to review lessons
- Maintain a healthy environment for staff and youth alike
Requirements:
- Participate in a First Aid Training course
- Attend Staff Trainings
Ideal candidate:
Reliable, attentive, and enthusiastic about working with youth in active outdoor settings.
