Job Description Summary:

The Contractor supports the discovery and optimization of small-molecule drug candidates through the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of drug-like molecules. Working under the guidance of senior scientists, this role involves conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including biology, pharmacology and DMPK. The successful candidate should have a strong foundation in organic chemistry, excellent laboratory skills, and a commitment to safe laboratory practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary duties/responsibilities:

• With guidance from the advisor, designs and synthesizes small-molecule compounds to support drug discovery and lead optimization efforts.
• Purifies and characterizes compounds using appropriate analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, LC-MS, HPLC) and accurately interprets experimental data.
• Develops and applies medicinal chemistry knowledge and skills to address project objectives.
• Maintains awareness of current scientific literature and state-of-the-art principles related to synthetic and medicinal chemistry.
• Presents research findings and recommendations to project teams and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Collaborates effectively with scientists from biology, DMPK, and related disciplines.
• Participates in the preparation of patents, scientific reports, and other project-related communications.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and detailed laboratory records and electronic notebooks.
• Complies with all safety, regulatory, and company policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Broad knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and retrosynthetic planning.

* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.

• Ph.D degree in Organic Chemistry.

* Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required.

• Strong knowledge of organic chemistry principles, reaction mechanisms, and synthetic methodologies.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data and draw scientifically sound conclusions.
• Working knowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling procedures.
• Experience with common analytical techniques such as NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, or related instrumentation is preferred.

• Laboratory based position.

Expected Hourly Range: $50-60/hour. The hourly salary offered will be contingent on assessment of candidate education level, background, and experience relative to the requirements of the position they are being considered for, as well as review of internal equity.
