Job description:
Capable and motivated Geotechnical Engineer with 1–3+ years’ experience to join our geotechnical consultancy team based in Sydney’s Inner West.
This role offers a balanced mix of field and office-based work, with responsibility for site investigations, data interpretation, and geotechnical reporting, under the guidance of Senior and Associate Geotechnical Engineers.
You will play an important role in delivering high-quality geotechnical advice across a range of civil, infrastructure, and building projects while continuing to develop your technical and project delivery skills.

Responsibilities:
- Plan and carry out geotechnical investigations with an appropriate level of supervision
- Supervise drilling, test pits, and in-situ testing programs.
- Log soil and rock in accordance with Australian Standards.
- Interpret subsurface conditions and laboratory test results.
- Prepare factual and interpretive geotechnical reports, including design recommendations.
- Contribute to geotechnical analyses for foundations, earthworks, pavements, retaining structures, and slopes.
- Provide construction phase support, including site inspections and technical advice.
- Liaise with clients, drilling contractors, and internal project teams.
- Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and documentation.
Who you are:
You are a technically minded geotechnical engineer who enjoys a mix of site work and office-based engineering and takes pride in producing accurate, well-considered outputs.
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geology, or a related discipline.
- 1–3+ years’ experience in geotechnical engineering within a consultancy or similar environment.
- Strong skills in soil and rock logging and geotechnical interpretation.
- Experience preparing geotechnical reports.
- Keen eye for detail in field observations, data interpretation, and reporting.
- Good understanding of Australian Standards and local geotechnical practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability to the diverse nature of consultancy work.
- Quick learner with a passion for achieving best practice outcomes.
- Ability to work well in a close-knit team environment.
- Strong work ethic with a desire for learning.
- Friendly, proactive, and self-motivated.
- Comfortable with travel within NSW and interstate.
- Current Australian driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Experience in infrastructure, transport, or complex civil projects.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software.
- Experience providing construction phase support.
- Working toward CPEng or RPGeo.
