Fuss & O'Neill
Fuss & O’Neill is seeking a Permitting Specialist to join our Natural Resources team, supporting a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and transportation projects across Massachusetts and the broader New England region.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with permitting and design teams to prepare and submit regulatory applications under the guidance of senior staff
- Develop clear, concise, and compelling project narratives outlining environmental impacts, mitigation strategies, and compliance pathways
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to advance permitting approvals efficiently
- Participate in pre-Application meetings, site visits, and public hearings, representing project teams to regulators and stakeholders
- Support field efforts including wetland delineations, resource area evaluations, and environmental assessments
- Assist with mapping and data visualization using GIS tools to support permitting documentation
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Policy, Water Resources, Wetlands, Natural Resources, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in environmental permitting, with a focus in Massachusetts
- Working knowledge of key regulatory frameworks, including:
- Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act
- Clean Water Act (Sections 401/404)
- Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA)
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex environmental and regulatory concepts
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with agencies, clients, and stakeholders
- Basic GIS proficiency, particularly in map creation
- Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) or Associate Professional Soil Scientist (APSS) certification
- Experience with ArcGIS and project management tools
