The Gas Designer II is responsible for supporting the development of constructionready documents for natural gas transmission and distribution projects. This position requires intermediatetoadvanced proficiency with design software, a solid understanding of utility standards, and the ability to independently complete increasingly complex design tasks. Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, Gas Designer II collaborates with senior designers, engineers, and project managers to produce accurate, highquality drawings and project deliverables that meet client, NV5, and industry requirements. This role is wellsuited for individuals who have strong drafting experience, growing technical judgment, and the ability to resolve routine design issues with minimal guidance.
Responsibilities
- Use technical handbooks, utility standards, tables, and calculators to support the creation and refinement of design deliverables.
- Research, specify, and recommend commercially available materials and equipment for use in project designs.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and project managers to troubleshoot design challenges and improve accuracy, consistency, and delivery of construction documents.
- Produce complex drawings and documents in a professional and organized manner, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Work under the direction of Lead Designers, Senior Designers, and Engineers to complete assigned portions of design work.
- Maintain accurate and organized design records, drawing files, and project documentation.
- Create and update asbuilt drawings based on field markups and record information.
- Apply independent judgment to assignments that require evaluation, interpretation, and Application of design concepts.
- Specify portions of engineering systems using catalog resources, applying specialized knowledge to develop effective technical solutions.
- Support multiple concurrent projects across various offices and manage time efficiently to meet project schedules.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 years of experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plant 3D, or related design platforms.
- Associate’s degree in engineering, Architectural Technology, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, Design, or related discipline.
- Strong teamwork skills and a positive, collaborative attitude.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related project coordination tools.
- 4-6 years of combined experience in civil drafting, design drawing, and utilityrelated design work.
- Working knowledge of applicable design and construction standards within the utility industry.
- Valid driver’s license.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 3 years of direct drafting and design experience in gas transmission or distribution systems.
- Working knowledge of utility safework practices.
- Proficiency with additional design programs or platforms.

The pay range for this California position is $36.00- $46.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162.
