The National Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Manager is responsible for maintaining and improving the integrated certified management system (IMS) that fulfils the ISO standards. To lead the quality, health, safety and environmental functions in a manner that protects the company, employees, customers and assets against losses, injuries, and accidents by the development and enforcement of safe work practices. Maintain Divisional compliance with Group, and Canadian Legal and Regulatory requirements in all areas relevant to SHEQ. Advise and support the Canadian operations under the responsibility of the Human Resources Manager.
This position is based in either Mississauga or Lively, Ontario, and the role involves some travel to other Canadian locations as needed, with occasional international travel.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and advise the quality, health, safety and environmental functions in a manner that protects the company, employees, customers and assets against losses, injuries, and accidents by the development and enforcement of safe work practices.
- Manage and maintain the integrated certified management system (IMS) that fulfils the applicable ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Maintain Divisional compliance within Epiroc Group, Divisional Area and Canadian Legal and Regulatory requirements in all areas relevant to SHEQ.
- Manage and control internal and external ISO audit processes and support the Business Controller for participation and ownership of the SHEQ portion of the Group Internal Assessment Audit (GIAA).
- Manage and control SHEQ risk assessments and make recommendations for improvements as required.
- Manage and lead a high-performing SHEQ team, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship. Provide guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities to ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. Encourage collaboration and continuous improvement within the team to achieve the Group/Divisional targets.
- Ensure all SHEQ health & safety requirements are provided to the relevant stakeholders/managers, including the issue and use of PPE, with the objective of achieving the Group / Divisional target of zero accidents, incidents and property damages.
- Primary contact with external parties for all SHEQ related matters for Epiroc Canada.
- Manage and control accurate record keeping relating to SHEQ, advise on incident investigations as and when required.
- Advise, guide and support top management to ensure that SHEQ procedures and policies are complaint and roll out, operating effectively and that all personnel are fully engaged and trained in the processes.
- Support the HR department, as necessary, with the various workers compensation boards across Canada.
- Ensure that SHEQ Objectives and targets are in line with the Group SHEQ goals.
- Advise, guide and support the roll out of the Local, Region as well as Group SHEQ strategy for Epiroc Canada.
- Support compliance to the Epiroc Loss Prevention Standard as it pertains to SHEQ Canada (excluding the PC locations).
- Maintain awareness of changes in the global sustainability requirements, attend training, webinars, meetings as appropriate; provide training to update stakeholders.
- Ensure all input data to the quarterly reports, for all reporting entities, is verified for accuracy or noted as an estimate for trending analysis.
- Lead/consult with other departments to support our customers’ needs and expectations for environmental sustainability, including preparing and presenting quality or engineering reports and/or findings.
- Support the development and implementation of environmental sustainability projects (including cost saving ideas).
- Assist with the creation of forms, procedures, presentations, graphs, etc. to support the deliverables within the National SHEQ organization.
- Perform other tasks and duties as required.
Experience:
- At least 10-years of management experience in a mining, industrial, or manufacturing environment, with a preference for mining.
- Extensive experience in Health and Safety, with a focus on achieving or progressing towards accreditation.
- Background in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) or strong environmental knowledge required.
- ISO implementation and internal auditing experience in of the three (3) ISO Standards.
- Lead auditor certification preferred.
Knowledge/Education:
- Post secondary education.
- Accreditation in either Quality, Environment, or Health & Safety, or actively working towards it.
- Exposure to the mining industry is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

- Excellent organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.

- Clear and transparent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in delivering company-wide presentations and preparing senior management reports.
- Strong leadership qualities.

- High ethical and moral standards, demonstrating integrity in all professional interactions.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Proficiency in English required and French is an asset.
